Growing Tomorrow's Materials: Building with Microbes
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode, we sit down with Lynn and Jakob, co-founders of Building with Microbes, top-five winners in the Science Entrepreneur Award.
Building with Microbes is making building materials from waste bound by fungal mycelium and bacteria, repurposing a waste stream into circular building blocks, and creating an alternative that tackles emissions, resource extraction, and construction waste all at once. Growing tomorrow's materials from yesterday's concrete.
They share their journey from PhD research to co-founding a company full-time, and explore how their material saves on emissions, how regulations are shaping demand from planners, and the challenges of scaling production.
Just two weeks before this recording, Building with Microbes landed their first paying customers, a milestone alongside a grant from Innovationsfonden Denmark.
